Emergency medical aid in Lebanon – Borderfree mobile clinic

Already before the outbreak of the Syrian war and Covid-19 Lebanon’s health system was weak and inadequate. Since the devastating explosion in Beirut in August 2020 and the destruction of livelihoods for many, even fewer people in the slums and refugee camps can afford necessary medical treatment which is also not available in some areas.

For this reason, we run a mobile clinic that provides emergency medical aid and treatment free of charge. Since mid-April 2021, our physician Dr. Marwan Obeid has been on duty in various refugee camps in Lebanon. He also treats destitute Lebanese on the fringes of society and in remote regions. In this way we help the poorest of the poor.

In the last five weeks, Dr. Marwan Obeid has treated about 1,400 patients in our mobile clinic. Due to the very critical hygienic and health conditions, many of his patients suffer from skin diseases, infections and fever. People with physical disabilities and deformities of extremities mostly received no treatment. They are severely limited in their daily life and need surgical interventions to alleviate their health suffering.

In the coming weeks and months, lines of children and adults in Lebanon’s refugee camps will continue to form in front of our mobile clinic. And we will continue to work with dedication to make the lives of these children and adults pain-free and worth living again. However, in order to maintain the operation of the mobile clinic at the same intensity and to be able to run it for the first 3 months, we need a total of 32,500 Swiss francs*.
